FAQ

Q.
What is the Minnesota Association of Child Care Professionals
(MACCP)?
A.
MACCP is a brand new, voluntary association of licensed family
child care providers from Minnesota. The mission of MACCP is to strengthen the family child care profession by advocating
for policy improvements, offering additional support and
services to providers, and by promoting family child care as an
exceptional option for quality care and early childhood
education.
Q.
Why should I join MACCP?
A.
As with any organization, the more members we have, the stronger
we are and the more we can accomplish. As a professional member, you
will have opportunities to provide direct input that will be used to
determine our policy agenda. We at MACCP understand you work hard
for your money and we will work hard to earn your membership. We
have a board position dedicated to finding and securing benefits
and perks for our members.
Q.
Are you affiliated with a union?
A.
No. MACCP strongly supports each provider’s right to choose what
organizations—if any—he or she wants to be part of or support. MACCP
respects the independence of each provider and will fight to sustain
that right. For more information about our position on the child
care union election, click

Q.
How are you different from other associations?
A.
With each passing year, the family child care profession faces
new challenges. MACCP is a new breed of association that was
designed specifically to address these challenges on a number of
different fronts. MACCP filed for non-profit status as a 501C(4),
preventing the IRS from limiting our lobbying and advocacy work at
the Capitol. This allows us to focus the majority of our resources
directly on advocating for the policy changes we so desperately
need. MACCP is an organization of licensed family child care
providers working to support our profession. We are not funded by
outside organizations or government agencies, so our priority will
always be our members. We do not have any paid staff, so almost
every membership dollar we earn directly supports our efforts.
Q.
I am not a child care provider. Can I still join?
A.
There are two types of membership available with MACCP. A
professional membership comes with voting rights in both the
election of officers and in any surveys or questionnaires used to
help set the agenda of the organization. It is crucial that these
important decisions be made by those impacted and directly involved
in the profession. Therefore, only licensed family child care
providers are eligible to purchase a professional membership.
We welcome everyone else who supports
the mission and goals of MACCP to purchase an associate membership.
While this does not come with voting rights, your support makes a
difference!
Q.
What legislation are you supporting this coming session?
A.
There are numerous different proposals we are working on that we
believe will benefit family child care providers and address some of
the challenges we have been facing. Stay tuned for more information
as we continue to build our legislative agenda. Do you have ideas
for a bill? Would you like to assist with our
public policy efforts? Please contact us.
